Have you ever read a book, and wished you could visit the author’s imaginary land? Inspired by the hillside homes of J.R.R. Tolkien’s literature, and by our beautiful, rolling hills in Bristol, New York, we sought to create a small piece of magic in our own back yard.

Evoking thoughts of far-away, mythical lands, our cottages are a wonderful place for imaginations to roam. Each one is built with solid wood, attention to detail, and a playful spirit.

The choices are limited only by your imagination, what is available in the marketplace, and/or your tolerance for hideous color combinations.

Here’s an example of a stained version, with semi-transparent blue walls, green roof, and solid red door and window trim.

From Vision to Reality

Just after Christmas 2009, the idea for a unique kid’s play house was born. After asking the question “What would we want in a playhouse?”, our evolving thoughts led to the current design; an artistic, flowing form reminiscent of many a fantasy structure.

Hobbits, Fairies/Faeries, Dwarves, Gnomes; you name it, and it has been mentioned when people first see one of our cottages. One certain grandchild has even called it his “Bob (the Builder) House”. Wherever one’s imagination can take them, a Bristol Shire Cottage is sure to help in the journey.

Is this the end of our creativity? Hardly. On the horizon is an earth sheltered, sod roof dwelling that is sure to take everyone’s imagination, young and old alike, far afield.
